Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children or the new Tim Burton world

Written by

Hey,

A few days ago was the premiere of the new Tim Burton movie: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. This weekend I saw it and I can’t wait to share my thoughts, so bear in mind that there will be spoilers ;)

Before starting with the review I just wanted to add that the photos on the post remind me of the style of the movie so that’s why I picked them!

Going back to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children:

The last project of Tim Burton is based on the book by Ramson Riggs so the movie already has a fan base. And even though most times books are way better than the movies, I decided to watch the movie before reading the book. Not for anything else but because I do trust Tim Burton’s ability to create magical worlds!

I went into the cinema with no expectations and immuned from disappointment that you probably get if you read the book first…

Although the description of the movie shows that it’s a young adult type, the beginning didn’t really seem that way. The cast and crew names were shown on an old newspaper pages with a creepy music in the background. I was intrigued in a second! Because as much as we love Burton, the last Alica movie was just too childish - he needed something darker…

Then I expected the action to be quite similar in spirit. Well it wasn’t! The movie began in the sunny Florida nowadays where we met the lead character. Asa Butterfield was set to play that role (the boy who played Ender) and he was great!

But we didn’t spent a lot of time in Florida and not in 2016.

After the peculiar death of Jake’s grandfather, the boy left for Wells with his father where the sunny side of the movie turned into a foggy one. They went to a small island with less than 100 people where the granddad was raised in a home.

For while after the main character realizes that this hime was ruined in the Second World War and all the children were dead. But were they…

And if till now you couldn’t see Burton’s signature style, this is the moment when it all comes together - the world of the peculiar children!

And what is a peculiar child?

These are children with extraordinary powers. You can see the lighter than air girl, the dream projection boy, the girl with teeth on her back, the invisible boy and so on…

But why only children?

The woman who takes care of them Miss Peregrine is an imbrine (a peculiar woman who can turn into a bird and make time laps where the children live to be safe).

What are they keeping them safe of?

From the shadows - peculiar people who want to find a way to become immortal and they’re willing to do whatever it takes to do that…

You can figure out that other than the peculiar world, the movie takes you to an adventure where the good verses evil and the time jumps are so well made!

And even though good vs evil is an old story, Burton shows a different story full of fresh ideas and visual challenges!

The brilliant Eva Green is the corner stone of the production and the evil in the face of Samuel L. Jackson finishes the picture perfect!

If you’re a fan of fantastic stories or you’re just a Tim Burton fan, then Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is a great way to end your day ;)

See you soon,

Victoria
